frFIS Regulations: Cut-resistant base layers are mandatory starting from the 2025–2026 season
Starting in the 2025–2026 winter season, new FIS (International Ski Federation) regulations regarding skiers' protective equipment come into effect. Among them: mandatory cut-resistant tights in competitive skiing. This major change aims to improve athlete safety, as the speed and intensity of alpine skiing increasingly expose racers to the risk of cut injuries.
What is a cut-resistant garment?
Un vêtement anti-coupure est un sous-vêtement technique, porté sous la combinaison de ski de compétition. Conçu à partir de fibres haute performance (comme le Dyneema® ou d’autres textiles résistants à la coupure), il protège les jambes contre les blessures graves causées par les carres des skis.
La FIS impose désormais que ces collants et vêtements soient homologués et qu’ils portent une étiquette de conformité avec la mention :"Conforme aux spécifications FIS CRG 20021"
La règle ne s’applique pas de la même manière selon l’âge des compétiteurs. Voici un résumé clair :
U12–U14 Categories
Cut-resistant tights are not yet mandatory. The FIS strongly recommends their use starting in the 2025–2026 season to get young racers accustomed to this protection.
U16 Category
Starting in the 2025–2026 season, wearing cut-resistant tights becomes mandatory. Using Level 3-star tights is highly recommended.
U18 Category and above
Level 3-star tights are mandatory for U18 and all higher categories.
Starting in the 2026–2027 season: Level 3-star tights will become mandatory starting from the U12 category.
