FIS Regulations : Cut-Resistant Tights Become Mandatory from the 2025-2026 Season
Starting with the 2025-2026 season, new rules from the FIS (International Ski Federation) come into effect regarding skier protective equipment. Among them: the mandatory use of cut-resistant tights in competitions.
This major change aims to improve athlete safety, as the speed and intensity of alpine skiing increasingly expose competitors to the risk of cut injuries.
What is a cut resistant underwear ?
A cut-resistant tight (or "cut-resistant pants") is a technical undergarment worn under the competition ski suit. Made from high-performance fibers (such as Dyneema® or other cut-resistant textiles), it protects the legs against serious injuries caused by ski edges.
The FIS now requires that these tights be certified and carry a compliance label stating: "Conforms to FIS CRG 20021 specifications."
The rule does not apply in the same way depending on the age of the competitors.
Voici un résumé clair :
- U12-U14 Catégories
Wearing cut-resistant tights is not yet mandatory.
However, the FIS strongly recommends their use from the 2025-2026 season to familiarize young skiers with this protection.
- U16 Categories
From the 2025-2026 season, wearing cut-resistant tights becomes mandatory. The use of 3-star level tights is strongly recommended.
- U18 and above Categories
Wearing 3-star level of cut resistant pants is mandatory for U18 and all older categories.
From the 2026-2027 season : Wearing 3-star level tights will be mandatory starting from the U12 category.
